Gotham is the best show DC has

If it hasn’t already been made crystal clear to you from my previous posts, I am a Marvel stan through and through. Even so, I do have a soft spot for some DC content from time to time.

In my opinion, Gotham is by far the best thing DC has going for it in terms of its television shows. (Full disclosure, I am a fan of The Flash because Barry Allen and Co. are just too entertaining and pure to resist. Other than that, I don’t watch any of the other Arrow-verse programs…With the exception of the yearly crossover episodes.)

Gotham truly has it all. While Arrow-verse shows arguably come off as shallow, watered down versions of their source content, Gotham is a lot more gritty and dark (as gritty and dark as you can be for a basic cable show in primetime) – matching its source content.

One of my favourite things about Gotham is that though it can be seen as the origin story of Bruce Wayne, which we’ve read and watched 100 times over, as well as the origin/evolution of some of our favourite Gotham villains/anti-heroes – at it’s core its the story of Jim Gordon and how he shapes the lives of our favourite heroes and villains.

When it was announced that the current season would be its last I was confused to say the least. It seemed like with the amount of characters, both good and evil, the show had endless story lines to explore and play with. In contrast to shows like The Flash which have a limited number of characters and story lines to work with.

Though the ratings have never been great, the fanbase has always been strong. This is a testament to not only the writing, but the cast as well. For example, I know we are all skeptical when someone takes on the role of The Joker (Heath Ledger forever and ALWAYS), but Cameron Monaghan proved his chops in less than 3 minutes:

Maybe Gotham is quitting while their ahead, which is a noble thing. But, DC is definitely benching the star player in their TV line up.
